Contour Western Ranch Pad

Contoured Western Ranch Pad with shock-absorbing ThinLine. Ultimate protection for horse and rider as is, or add shims for a customizable fit.

Description

What is ThinLine?

ThinLine is a thin, shock-absorbing non-slip breathable foam.  It is endorsed by surgeons, master saddlers, riders, and veterinarians.

Where is the ThinLine On The Contoured Saddle Pad?

It is sewn onto the panel of our Contoured Western Ranch Fleece Lined saddle pad. An open pocket is included allowing you to place saddle-fitting shims (if you need them).

pressure relief saddle pads

For the Horse

A raised wither profile with a swallow topline makes this pad adaptable to the conformation of any horse – high withered or mutton withers. The flexibility and stretchiness of the ThinLine molds around your horse’s shape. The contour of the pad, which follows the natural curve of your horse’s back, stops any bunching.

Thin with extreme shock absorption delivers comfort for horses. The ThinLine also ventilates, across the pad, allowing excess heat to move out from under the saddle.  Most importantly to your horse is how this pad creates stability of the rider.  Communication and comfort are guaranteed results of using ThinLine.

For the Rider

The slim design puts you in closer contact with your horse, so your leg can easily drape giving you a seamless feel of his sides.  You’ll notice his back moving more,  but with the extraordinary shock absorption of ThinLine, you will be moving in unison with your mount.  The ThinLine layer sewn onto the pad has a 95% shock absorption rate that spreads impact LATERALLY along the pad. The motion you feel under you as you ride is absorbed by the ThinLine and transferred ACROSS the pad instead of UP into your spine. This same shock absorption benefit is being enjoyed by your horse as well. With reduced movement of your seat, your balance is easier to keep, so “staying” with your horse becomes second nature. You sit quieter, and he responds with a relaxed, softback, and freer strides.

Western Ranch Contour Saddle Pad Components and Sizing:

A panel of ThinLine (3/16 inch thick) is sewn to each side of the spine band.  Black synthetic fleece against your horse. Interior felt liner. Tough Cordura fabric on top, leather fenders.

Shimming for Saddle Fit and Comfort
Full saddle-fitting shims are available when you select your pad size.  These may be used as-is to double your protection or trimmed into pairs of front, bridging, and rear shims to customize your saddle fit.

The dual benefits of extraordinary shock absorption and rider motion reduction sets ThinLine apart from other saddle pads.

How do I know ThinLine is delivering the comfort and protection my horse needs?

Once you receive your Contour Western Ranch Fleece Lined saddle pad, ride in it for at least a week.  At first, you may simply notice things like; “my horse was great today, my seat and aids were soft and effective”, great job! you are on your way.  You will see daily improvement. But, this can be a bit subtle in the beginning.  How to check out your pad’s effectiveness:  After at least a week of riding daily, begin your warm-up with the ThinLine.  After the warm-up, remove the ThinLine and ride.  This is when you will see just how much your horse is loving their therapeutic ranch saddle pad.

Selecting Shims

All shimmable pads start with ThinLine panels (3/16″) over a base pad. The ThinLine panel creates a pocket to place optional shims for fine-tuning your saddle fit.

ThinLine Shim:

  •  ThinLine  (3/16″)

Multiple ways to shim

  • add trimmed shims to the front, center, or rear of your pad to adjust your saddle fit
  • use a full length shim to add another layer of ThinLine comfort and protection

Synthetic Sheepskin Care Instructions

One of the great things about synthetic fleece against your horse; you get incredible softness without the high maintenance of real sheepskin.  So feel free to get sweaty and work hard!  The ThinLine will be ventilating the heat from under your saddle.

This pad may be a bit large for your home washing machine, but it is machine washable with cold water. Use gentle soap for best results. A simple hosing will do as well. Hang to dry away from direct heat.

Your pad comes with a full one year warranty.

This is the ThinLine Cordura pad – It has made a difference for my horse and I can feel his back movement. I will be buying a second one in lime this time. I highly recommend it” – Trish Cheshire.

Karena Horton Crews: We bought a Thinline for our 8 year old daughter’s quarter horse. He has sensitive withers due to scar tissue from much earlier in his life. We also had a terrible issue with her saddle leaning and slipping ….nothing we tried worked. The Thinline made an immediate difference and we were able to add shims exactly where they were needed. Her Thinline made all the difference in the world for both she and her horse!!! Worth every penny!

I recently purchase one of the Thinline Cordura pad and I find that it is the best pad I have ever had. It fits my horse 16+hands and I am sure he is much more comfortable than anything I have ever tried. Well worth the money.

I love this pad but its too long for your typical cowhorse, pony, or colt. I work with a lot of short backed horses. I wish they offered this pad in the same sizes as their Western Premium Pro Tech Grey Felt Pad, the 29″ total length, 28″ across the shoulder, and 11″ drop at the seat would be perfect!

    • Berit Brown

      Hi Sierra,
Thank you for your comment! We appreciate your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve our products. You may like the size and shape of the round skirt style. It measures the same as the Pro Tech in length and rear drop, with a slightly longer drop at the shoulder. Please give us a call and we’ll be happy to help find the pad that’s the perfect fit for you!

Love my Thinline Contour ranch pad. I bought this pad to use on my 6 year old gelding with mutton withers and a broad back. I wanted a thin pad, but that still provided support and this pad fits all our needs. I can feel him moving better and my saddle no longer rolls or slides forward, and I don’t have to cinch it up as tight!

I purchased a thin line ranch pad a few months ago and have used it regularly. I love that it provides support and comfort without being thick so I can have good contact with my horse. I plan to purchase other products in the future.

We purchased the western contour pad for our daughter. She loves the turquoise color. I love that the pad is not too thick and even though she is small can still connect with her seat as she is being taught. Also equally love that we are doing something good for the horse as she is taking good care of our daughter. I viewed this purchase as an investment in both the horse and rider. This is our second year with this pad and expect it to last a long time.

I purchased my first western contoured pad 3 years ago and loved it. So I just ordered my second one, I’ve never had a horse with sore back. The last a long time and clean up well. Highly recommend them especially if you need to use shims.

I seem to have gotten an older version of this pad perhaps which is disappointing. It does not have the same degree of contour as the picture shown above. I have an ottb with a sensitive back. It is hard to pull the pad up in the wither channel and tends to slide down and put pressure across his withers. However my horse and I are really enjoying this pad. He and I are much happier while using this pad. I have a fitted western saddle and needed a thicker pad but not as thick as some western pads. This fits well just a challenge to keep off his withers. He is much more fluid and forward in his movements and the thinline helps me to stay with him more easily.

Thank you for your review! Checking with your saddle fitter is always a great place to start. In this case, adding a pair of front shims may do the trick. Please keep an eye out for an email for further assistance. Happy to hear that you and your horse are both enjoying the shock absorbing comfort of the Ranch Pad!

Because I have a saddle pad addiction and have struggled with saddle fit issues on my (now) 20-year-old gelding, I bought this saddle pad. I was NOT disappointed. Although the original saddle fit issue has been resolved, I’m still using and enjoying this pad! I can shim it, or take the shims out – so versatile. I love the color (I got the turquoise) and the durability of this pad. It is easy to clean! The things I love about ThinLine products are: 1. They are made in the USA! 2. They are right here in North Carolina! 3. They provide excellent products and TOP SHELF customer service. Thank you, ThinLine, for making quality equestrian products!

Very thin, almost more of a liner than an actual saddle pad.

Thanks for your question! Since not every horse will need to have shims added to their pads, they can be purchased separately here.

  3. Q How think can this pad be shimmed for bridging answer now

Thank you for your question! ThinLine shims are 3/16" thick and up to 3 shims can be stacked inside of the pocket, for about 1/2" total thickness.

  5. Q Does the ThinLine foam get stiff in cold (below zero) temps? answer now
    A

Hi!  Extended exposure to sub zero temperatures can cause the foam to become a bit brittle. We recommend storing your tack in a room above freezing. That said, it will not harden while out riding.  Once you get a little warmth going in your horses' back it will be nice and supple for them.

All of our pads have sufficient spine clearance for treeless saddles. The ThinLine is sewn on either side of the spine and since it does not compress it provides lift and support for treeless saddles.  Yes the round skirt should fit a Bob Marshall Sport Saddle.
