Saddle Fitting with the Western Cotton Saddle Pad Liner.
Full saddle fitting shims are available when you select your contoured saddle pad liner size. These may be used as-is to double your protection or trimmed into pairs of front, bridging, and rear shims to customize your saddle fit.
Not all riders need shims for their pad. Many minor saddle fit issues will be solved with just the ThinLine pad alone. If you are trying to solve issues such as bridging, filling in behind high withers or balancing the saddle, to name just a few, ThinLine shims will fix those issues while also providing additional protection.
“The manner in which ThinLine absorbs motion encourages horses to lift their backs, developing strength and top-line. It has been endorsed by Veterinarians, for horses, as well as Spinal Surgeons for riders. It is a top pick for Master Saddlers around the world. Equine Chiropractors and Massage Therapists carry it on their trucks to keep horses going strong, supple and relaxed. Trainers and riders find it a trusted product to improve rider equitation.

What is ThinLine?
ThinLine is a thin, shock-absorbing non-slip breathable foam.
- Impact (shock) absorbency of over 95%
- Carrying Capacity – it is the only equestrian product that distributes rider weight across the pad
- Non compressing – It never bottoms out, moves or degrades.
- Breathable
- Non-Slip
- It is the only saddle pad endorsed by spinal surgeons, master saddlers, and veterinarians for back health in horses and humans.
You will feel all the sensations of your horses’ back muscles while enjoying the shock absorption and non-slip features of the trademark ThinLine foam. Balance, comfort, and security can all be yours in our saddle pads. You will find yourself sitting correctly, developing great core strength while enjoying a close but quiet communication with your horse. Equines love ThinLine – they feel unified with their rider. So go ahead, it is time to have the ride of your life.
How do I know ThinLine is delivering the comfort and protection my horse needs?
Once you receive your ThinLine pad, ride in it for at least a week. At first, you may simply notice things like; “my horse was great today, my seat and aids were soft and effective”, great job! you are on your way. You will see daily improvement. But, this can be a bit subtle in the beginning.
How to check out your pad’s effectiveness. After at least a week of riding daily, begin your warm-up with the ThinLine. Once you are warmed up, remove the ThinLine and ride. This is when you will see just how much your horse is loving their saddle pad.

What is the difference between this saddle pad and the contender II?
-
A
This saddle pad is made of a thick dense easily washable cotton. The Contender 2 was a Back on Track Pad with ThinLine shims added to it. We no longer do the Back on Track product but I think you will find our cotton liner to be exceptionally durable, have the same great performance and is very washable - toss it in a washing machine if you like.
Just to clarify, the large is stated as a 31.5" x 30": Is the spine 31.5" or 30"?
-
A Thank you for your question! The large Western Cotton Liner has a 31.5" spine length.
