What is ThinLine?

ThinLine is a thin, shock absorbing non slip breathable foam.

The only equine product endorsed by surgeons, master saddlers, riders and veterinarians.

Where is the ThinLine?

It is sewn onto the panel of all our saddle pads.

Western felt saddle pad

Western Felt Saddle Pad, the Pro-Tech.

To be a better-balanced rider with a more responsive, sounder horse try ThinLine.

So how does a 3/16” thick pad of ThinLine stitched onto a 1/2” thick, wool felt pad make you a better-balanced rider and your horse more responsive and sounder? In a few ways…

The thin, Pro-Tech Felt Saddle Pad provides more shock absorption than a 2-inch thick felt pad. ThinLine eliminates pressure points. The needled wool felt pad is soft and flexible, allowing it to fit neatly and comfortably against your horses’ natural confirmation.  Without all that material between you and your horse you can feel each other, but all without the extra movement and “dead” feel of thick pads and gel pads.

For the horse.

This felt saddle pad has a wither-relief cutout which is best for moderate to low or mutton withered horses and a spine-free channel, further reducing the chance of pressure points.  Comfort for the horse is improved even with saddles which are perfectly fitted. The ThinLine also ventilates, across the pad, allowing excess heat to move out from under the saddle.  Most important, to your horse, is how these pads create stability.  Stability creates freedom.

For the rider.

The Pro-Tech saddle pad’s slim design puts you in closer contact with your horse, so your leg can easily drape giving you a seamless feel of his sides.  You’ll notice his back moving more,  but with the extraordinary shock absorption of ThinLine, you will be moving in unison with your mount.  The ThinLine layer sewn onto the pad has a 95% shock absorption rate that spreads impact LATERALLY  along the pad. The motion you feel under you as you ride is absorbed by the ThinLine and transferred ACROSS the pad instead of UP into your spine. This shock absorption benefit is being enjoyed by your horse as well.

With the reduced movement of your seat, your balance is easier to keep so “staying” with your horse, even during quick stops and starts, becomes second nature. You sit quieter, and he responds with a relaxed, softback, and freer strides.

How do I know ThinLine is delivering the comfort and protection my horse needs?

Once you receive your Western felt saddle pad, ride in it for at least a week.  At first, you may simply notice things like; “my horse was great today, my seat and aids were soft and effective”, great job! you are on your way.  You will see daily improvement. But, this can be a bit subtle in the beginning.  How to check out your pads effectiveness.  After at least a week of riding daily, begin your warm-up with the ThinLine.  After warm up, remove the ThinLine and ride.  This is when you will see just how much your horse is loving his felt saddle pad.

Western Felt Saddle Pad Money Back Guarantee.

Felt Saddle Pad Care Instructions

Our felt saddle pads have a high percentage of wool content. To avoid shrinkage, do not use hot water to clean, or heat to dry. Occasionally brush your pad with a curry brush. This will dislodge hair, dirt, and sweat to prolong the usefulness of your pad. Wool pads can be washed by scrubbing the dirty spots with a cloth or sponge, using cold water and a small amount of mild liquid wool-washing soap (We recommend EZ All). Hose all the soap off with clean water and allow the pad to air dry in a well-ventilated area. As you’re hosing, be sure to direct the spay from the center outward toward the edges, so that dirt, sweat, and hair is moved off of the pad and instead of being pushed into the pad.

I rode in my thinline western felt correction pad for the first time today. Instantly I could tell the difference between this pad and the pads I have used in the past. I never thought I rode forward until I sat in my saddle with the thinline pad underneath. I felt more centered and I also felt more balanced. I could tell my horse (6yr old appaloosa gelding, LJT Ace of Spades) was moving more freely underneath me and seemed more comfortable. I could even tell a difference in the feel of my seat. Before with past pads I had loose cushion, but with this pad I felt the shock absorption instantly and knew that when my horse and I run our barrel pattern that he would be protected from my movements of sitting deep into the saddle around turns, and it did!

I absolutely will not ride in anything BUT my ThinLine pads! Whether its the liner or felt correction pad that I have! I absolutely love how both myself and my horses aren’t sore. They are able to stride out more and the pads provide the best shock absorption around! I am more centered and balanced which in return I am able to get my timing correct when I compete! Thank you Thinline for having such an awesome product!

Another great weekend doing what we love! LJT Ace of Spades stayed fast and consistent and clean all weekend. Friday ran a 16.378, Saturday ran a 16.203 and Sunday 16.113 and was too fast for the 4D! All thanks to his Thinline western felt correction pad with front and mid shims! He felt great and worked amazing! Thank you Thinline for having amazing products!

    :

I love my options with the Pro Tech felt pad. I have a horse with a low back and requires shims to bridge and on one shoulder, I was able to remove the shoulder shim after muscling occurred and my saddle still fits amazing! I have been able to adjust the shim positions and quantity that best suits his needs and keeps him comfortable and working. No more sore back, no more sore shoulders, and no more groan when I get on to ride-he literally vocalized his opposition to working!!! Thin Line Ultra is my go to for all saddle pad needs!!!!!!

I’ve used ThinLine pads for years, I used to be a dealer and I always recommend them to everyone who will listen! They worked awesome for me when I rode endurance, and they continue to work great for me and several of my teammates for Mounted Search and Rescue. I’ve had my two wool felt barrel TL pads for about 10 years each and they’re still going strong!

Questions and answers of the customers

  1. A Thank you for your question! This pad is great for horses with low to no withers due to its more traditional, straighter topline. If your horse has typical to high withers, they would likely go better in one of our pads with a contoured topline and built-in lift at the wither. Every saddle fit situation is different, but most downhill horses can benefit from adding front shims to this pad. When in doubt, we always recommend working with a qualified saddle fitter and would be glad to help you locate one in your area! Please call the office for further help. 888-401-9101.
  2. A Thank you for your question! All of our shimmable pads are constructed with Ultra Thinline panels, which by nature are very grippy and nonslip, in addition to providing excellent shock absorption and back protection. Most riders find that the panels do a great job of keeping everything in place. This particular pad, with its straighter topline and wither relief key hole cut out, works very well for horses with little to no withers and broad backs. Please feel free to give us a call at 888-401-9101 for further help selecting a pad.
  3. A Thank you for your question! This pad is made of the finest quality wool felt.
  4. A Thank you for your question! The Pro-Tech Felt Pad is a beautiful brown, top quality felt with brown Ultra ThinLine panels and the Premium Pro-Tech Felt Pad is made of the highest quality gray felt with black Ultra ThinLine panels. If you're looking for more variety, the Western Contour Ranch pad is available in 18 different colors!
  5. A Thank you for your question! We aren't able to customize this pad, but we do have other pads that would be a good fit. The Contour Ranch pad comes in 32x30 and 18 colors. The Full Sheepskin Comfort pad measures 31.5" and our Western Felt Liner is 32". Please check the links below and give us a call if you have any other questions! 888-401-9101
  6. A Thanks for your question! For this style pad, the small size refers to the smaller, rounded skirt. They both have the same overall length (28.5"), however the medium has a bit more of a cutback at the withers, so the spine measurement makes it look smaller on paper.
  7. A Thanks for your question! This pad is about 1/2" thick and where the Ultra ThinLine (3/16") is added, it measures 11/16".
