Basic English Horse Saddle Pads are Pure ThinLine Material.
There is so much to love about this simple and effective pad.
English Saddle Blanket Benefits:
- Ultimate protection for both horse and rider’s back.
- Provides maximum shock absorption without altering saddle fit or rider feel.
- Improves rider equitation.
- Tailored and discrete.
- Open-cell technology creates breathability.
- Product durability – can last up to 7-10 years.
- Supple, it molds for a custom fit when warmed to body temperature.
Should you purchase a basic ThinLine pad instead of a shimmable ThinLine Pad?
You Have a Well-Fitting Saddle – that does not require shimming.
Price and Longevity – The ThinLine foam will remain functional for 7-10 years, depending on use. Basic pads will cost you less than $1.00 per month.
Versatility – Basic pads may be placed over any other saddle pad and may be used on multiple horses.
Maintenance – Basic performance foam saddle pads require no care or washing.
Half Pad or Contour Pad?
Half Pads offer a discrete amount of protection directly under your saddle.
Contour Pads add additional protection under the stirrup bar and will help control left to right saddle slip. ThinLine absorbs impact by moving it laterally along the horse and English saddle pad. Unless the price is a serious barrier, we suggest you choose the contour pad; the more ThinLine foam you have, the better it works.
ThinLine+ or ThinLine?
ThinLine (3/16″,4.8mm) is our thinnest shock-absorbing English horse saddle pad. Thoughtfully designed to protect both horse and rider’s backs ThinLine creates a soft, quiet, elastic connection. If your riding is not in a place where you can focus on nuances, you should likely start in a ThinLine. If you are a close contact rider, you will greatly appreciate ThinLine. This product reduces rider movement and helps horses balance and focus. It does not amplify the seat, it reduces “background noise” so the rider’s seat aids are clear. (Formerly Known as Ultra ThinLine)
ThinLine+ (1/4″, 6.4mm) is thicker and designed for beginning riders, horses in high-impact situations, or horses with sore backs. ThinLine+Plus is endorsed by Veterinarians, even for severe back problems such as kissing spine. It is the #1 choice of Equine Chiropractors and Massage Therapists.
The top choice for many great riders. Kent Farrington rides every horse, every day in a ThinLine+Plus Contour pad, and has done so for more than a decade.
Rider Spinal Health:
Riding over a lifetime can take its toll on a rider’s spine. ThinLine can drastically reduce the aches and pains that come from time in the saddle by moving shock, weight, and heat laterally along the pad without compressing. Horses backs also benefit from the 95% shock absorption and from having a quieter ride in the saddle. ThinLine is the only saddle pad endorsed by Spinal Surgeons – See “The Riders Pain-Free Back” by Dr. James Warson.
- Two shapes – Half pad and Contour pad.
- Two thicknesses – ThinLine+Plus(1/4″ 6.4mm) and ThinLine(3/16″4.8mm).
- ThinLine Half (3/16″4.8mm) pad available with border trimmed, or untrimmed.
- ThinLine (3/16″4.8mm) Contour pad available untrimmed.

Can you trim these into three pieces like a normal shim and use with a sheepskin halfpad that does not have shim pockets?

These are made of the same Open cell ThinLine foam, so essentially yes, but our shims come with pre cut holes as guide lines to cut and cost less than a basic pad. If you already own the basic pad, there is no reason why it wouldn't work the same.
Are you guys no longer making the Thinline+ Contour pad? It only gives me the option to buy regular ThinLine, and I’d like the plus.
- How should I store my contour pad? Not that I don’t like it. Just switched to a wool version. Thanks.

What could cause the pad to break down, my ripped under the saddle and has been cared for. Its less than a year old, nervous to have to buy every few months but really helps my horse, what would cause a tear?
- I have a thin line half pad that I used several years ago and I have forgotten which side goes up against the saddle.
- I have the Thinline+ Contour pad, which I used on top of my English saddle pad. My saddle pad is contoured to follow the withers, but my pad is not. I am sure I read somewhere to not pull the pad up into the gullet of the saddle, so I tried to just make sure the pad followed the contour of my cotton pad. I had a bit of a problem getting it to stay in place. Any suggestions? I am just about ready to put the Thinline pad on my horse first, lol. FYI, it's a Fjord.

There have been a number of riders who have had good luck trimming the pad in the front to allow for a better fit with the contoured pad underneath. If you decide to trim, please be sure to trim it into a rounded cut back, as opposed to a v-shaped cut. Also, the ThinLine Contour Pad can be used against your horse (it's very breathable & anti fungal/bacterial) but it may shorten the lifetime of the pad by being exposed to more dirt and sweat. Another option to consider is our Trifecta cotton half pad. It is designed with it's own contoured wither and works beautifully on top of another contoured pad. As always, if you have more questions, or if there's anything we can do to help, please call us @ 888-401-9101. https://www.thinlineglobal.com/shop/english-saddle-pads/ultra-thinline-trifecta-cotton-half-pad

- which one would be best for endurance
Q which one would be best for endurance answer nowA All ThinLine pads offer the back protection and ventilation that you'll need for endurance riding. So it's really just a matter of finding a pad shape that works best with your saddle. We make four pads specifically for endurance. There are two round skirt pads. one is all cotton (7304-S) and the other is lined sheepskin (3334-S). We also make two with a modified square skirt, one in felt (7336) and one in cotton. The cotton pad is designed for drop rigging and has extra ThinLine underneath where your rigging would sit. The drop rigging pad is available in all cotton (8801) or with synthetic sheepskin( 8802). Feel free to search the item numbers on the website to see all of the options. If you have any questions, or if we can be of further help, please call the office at 888-401-9101.
Is it possible to shim the basic pads?
Q Is it possible to shim the basic pads? answer nowA Thank you for your question! Our Basic pads are formed of a single piece of ThinLine Plus or Ultra ThinLine material and are not shimmable. All other ThinLine pads, besides the Basics, are shimmable. They are made with Ultra ThinLine panels sewn along the spine of the pad, creating a pocket for adding shims.
Is there any availability of the ThinLinePlus half pad in white, rather than black?
Q Is there any availability of the ThinLinePlus half pad in white, rather than black? answer nowA Thanks for your question! The ThinLinePlus Basic half pad is only available in black.
