Non-Slip English Horse Reins

Provide your horse with the softest and most secure connection with our specially designed reins.

Quiet stability of hand-to-bit contact is the key goal of all riders. The challenges of holding a rein can create tension. When the hand is tense, this tension moves from the hand all the way up to the shoulder. Losing a rein in a key moment is something we all wish to avoid. Our reins are wrapped in our no-slip ThinLine foam. They are similar to a rubber grip style rein but better. They will allow riders to have a soft, comfortable yet secure grip which translates to an elastic, sure connection to our horse.

While initially developed for riders with arthritis, riders of all levels love the improved elasticity and connection with their horses when riding with ThinLine English reins.

The ThinLine non-slip English rein is durable and guaranteed to improve communication and confidence with your horse.

Options and Sizing

Rein Options-

Two sizes:  Horse (54″) Warmblood (60″)

Bit ends: stud hook and buckle end

Hand stops: with or without

All reins come with martingale stops.  If you do not need this, you may remove it.

The option titled “reins with stops” means there are bands of leather sewn onto the handheld portion of the reins. Often called hand stops.

Rein Care Instructions

Keeping the Non-Slip going strong:

  • *Wiping down the rein with a baby wipe prior to riding can keep light arena dust from settling and improve the non-slip function.
  • *Temperature can alter the feel of the reins.  The warmer they are, the softer they will be and the more non-slip. Your hand generally provides enough warmth to get the rein to the optimal performance temperature.
  • *Steer clear of chemicals!  Show Sheen and some fly sprays will eventually cause mild stiffening of the edges of the foam.  If you are using chemicals please rinse your hands before riding and you will greatly improve the longevity of your reins.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS: We strongly recommend using all-natural  ThinLine Cleaners. It’s completely safe for the ThinLine foam, and does an excellent job of cleaning the leather too! Simple dish soap also works and baby wipes are handy for a quick clean up!

Please avoid leather care products; they contain oil which is damaging to the ThinLine foam material. While the foam looks and feels like leather, it is a special, nonslip, pressure distributing foam. For conditioning the leather, we recommend using a paste-like conditioner (like Horseman’s One Step) so that you can control the application, avoiding contact with the ThinLine foam.

Please be aware that leather care products and chemicals such as Show Sheen and fly spray can cause the foam to harden.

I was surprised how hard it was to find reins in a longer length. I ordered these and I have to say I love them. The length is perfect and the thickness and the non-slip material is wonderful. Highly recommend

  2. CB

I love these reins. I have arthritis in my hands and they’re the perfect weight, thickness, and feel for me. They have a lot of feel to them as well.

  3. Jessica

These are great reins. Switched about a year ago after a recommendation from our head trainer and have never looked back since. They are a perfect length and it can be difficult to find the longer reins for my BIG boy. No slippage and hold up extremely well over time. Use these exclusively for my dressage bridle and getting ready to change over for my jump tack as well.

  4. Dorie M (verified owner)

My favorite reins! I love everything about these reins – the weight, the thickness, the feel in my hand. Especially perfect for xc as they do not get slick when wet or sweaty, but I actually have 4 sets and use them for dressage as well. I have RA so a rein that fits my hand comfortably is super important. I recommend these all the time to others!

  5. Amber B

I have had the thinline black reins for about five years and I highly recommend them!! I’m a dressage rider, so having a soft feeling with my horse’s mouth is crucial for our communication. These reins have always allowed me to gently feel the mouth without being too strong. Plus, they are very squishy and comfortable in the hand! Sometimes I ride other horses with different reins and I always wish they were thinline! Trust me, you will not regret buying these!

  6. Lori Marran (verified owner)

I recently purchased the Thinline English reins. I needed a longer length to accommodate my large OTTB. Thinline was one of the few companies that offered a longer length. I really like these reins. They are soft and feel substantial in your hand and my very sensitive horse seemed very responsive and relaxed.

  7. Sharon (verified owner)

After many and I do mean many decades I decided to start riding again. Before I knew it I was the proud owner of an Arabian mare. A friend recommended these reins and they are worth every penny. They feel substantial in my hand and my horse seems more responsive. Love these reins.

  8. Kathleen Grimes

I purchased one set of reins to try and I am thrilled with them. The reins no longer slip through my fingers and the feel with my horse’s mouth is steady now. I recommend the reins to everyone.

  9. Margaret Woodward (verified owner)

I love these reins so much I won’t ride with anything else! I literally have three sets…one for my jumper bridle, one for dressage and one for my Hunter. They are really easy and comfortable to grip. Highly recommend!

  10. Suzanne (verified owner)

I love these reins and have two sets – full and cob!! They’re my go-to reins for fox hunting and trail riding. They’re flexible, soft, and thick – but lightweight and not bulky. I appreciate how easy they are to clean and how they stay grippy when wet. I purchased my first set to help with arthritic fingers (which they do), but I wish I had found them years ago!

  11. Debra Davis (verified owner)

These reins have greatly improved my ability to hold without inadvertently letting them slip and get long. They are very comfortable – I have smallish hands and was worried they would be too thick, but they are actually easier to use than a thin rein. Will buy again when need a replacement!

  5. Q What is the difference between the ends? Buckle and Stud? answer now

    Thank you for your question!

The buckle end style uses a buckle to attach the rein end to the bit. Tradional style in the dressage ring and great for riders who want to be able to make easy rein changes.

The stud hook version connects to the bit securely with the classic attachment style shown below.

  6. What is the difference between the ends? Buckle and Stud?
  7. Q What is the difference between the ends? Buckle and Stud? answer now

A buckle end on a rein has leather that goes through a buckle. In a stud end the leather secures onto a hook, called a stud.

  8. What does a stud end look like?
  9. Q What does a stud end look like? answer now

It looks like a little metal hook. The leather on the end of the rein slides over it and secures.
