Softer, Smarter & Safer!

This Flexible Filly slow feed grazing horse muzzle is unlike the typical cage-like apparatus of the past. We designed this to be softer, lighter, and less behaviorally restrictive. Constructed of a durable and pliable material that radically improves the horses’ feel. It is effective while also being soft on equine teeth and lips. The Flexible Filly Muzzle is well-ventilated and safe, rated to break just before your turnout halter.  Additionally, the grazing hole size is adjustable, allowing you to offer the perfect grazing options.

Try our top-of-the-line muzzle!  Our research determined horses dislike muzzles because they cannot behave naturally in them.  With the historical cage-like or bucket-like versions, horses are unable to engage in social activities like wither scratching or other playful interactions resulting in social and emotional health in horse herds.

Don’t take our word for it, read this honest review from Decidedly Equestrian!

grazing muzzle on a halterThe good news is that the Flexible Filly grazing muzzle’s limited hole size can be easily altered by horse owners for the perfect grazing opening.  ThinLine now offers muzzles with a 2+ cm hole.  To create a larger hole simply mark your muzzle with a pen and use a pair of scissors to cut the size you need.

Because every horses’ needs are different we offer you a fully customizable grazing hole for your equine muzzle.  It is easy to have extraordinary comfort for your horse and the perfect grazing hole size for all metabolic and environmental issues.

The muzzle is ideal for slowing down speedy eaters, limiting grazing, and can help curb minor cribbing problems. The muzzle can also keep horses from chewing on leg wraps, wood, or blankets. It works extremely well with all automatic waterers and has UV protection, much like sunscreen for those delicate noses.

Quick Fitting Tips:

With the horse’s head in the upright position do not be alarmed if it touches the lips. Keep in mind horses spend most of their time with heads at ground level. This makes more room in the muzzle.

If your horse is attempting to eat out of the sides, this generally means they are not able to get grass through the center hole.  The size of the center grazing hole needs to work with other variables such as the height and thickness of the grazing grass.  We provide the smallest of grazing holes with the ability to enlarge it.  Just look to see if you might need to enlarge the hole.

If the problem persists, check the horse’s fit in grazing position.

a) Lower your halter and make sure your muzzle is not on the top hole, the more “leggy” the fins are the easier it is for them to try to eat out of the sides.  Raise the entire muzzle up several holes.  If this does not work you might need a smaller muzzle.

b) Make sure the fins between the front (or back) fin and the side (attached to the square ring) are evenly spaced.  If you have the fins neighboring the center front or center rear too close to the center one the horse will be able to eat out of the sides rather than the grazing hole.

The closer you fit the muzzle to your horses’ lips the less likely it is they will step on the muzzle and tear it.

Wear at the grazing hole:  Some horses use this muzzle for years without wear, some wear the grazing hole in a few months.  It will depend on how aggressive your horse is with its teeth.  One of the great features of this muzzle is that it does not damage teeth.  If we make the muzzle more durable we will lose that.  If you experience some wear at the grazing hole just keep an eye on it. When the hole becomes too large, over about 4-5 cm, you will need to purchase a new muzzle.

  1. Amy

5 out of 5 stars! I love this grazing muzzle! It’s lightweight and durable. My horse loves it because it’s not bulky like his other one. He hates the other ones. They’re hard for him to breathe out of. Hoping a version for a miniature horse will be available soon!! My mini breaks grazing muzzles all the time.

  2. Laura

Ok I don’t normally review or recommend products, but this muzzle is amazing!!!! Rilly is 19 years old and has Cushings and Insulin Resistance. She had a Lamanitic flare up last spring. I have never been able to get her to wear a grazing muzzle. She gets frustrated or maybe claustrophobic and takes it out on the other horses. She will chase them and bully them, or just run around spooking at everything with a muzzle on. I have tried so many brands, fits, an we have even made the holes bigger on some and it’s always a meltdown.

I saw this new muzzle form ThinLine Global and had to try it. I am not going to lie, I was super skeptical. When I got it I was impressed as it was much lighter and more flexible than I expected. Today was the first time turning her out in it and there was NO ADJUTMENT period!! I am honestly in shock! She is just calmly grazing and enjoying turnout as if she isn’t wearing anything!!!

I will keep you all posted on how it holds up but so far I am soooo happy! It is so light, breathable, and best part is it allows all of the dirt or weeds she doesn’t want to just fall though! She isn’t stressed or head-tossing (which she did constantly with basket muzzles)!

I absolutely love the Flexible Filly Slow Feed Grazing Muzzle!!!!!! I’ve heard people say that it is just expensive plastic and complaints about the cost, but I will say this thing works great so it is worth it! Because of it my horse gets to spend spring and summer in the pasture instead of the pen. I like that you can choose your own breakaway halter to go with it. My horse does have some rub marks from his halter so I ordered the thinline halter guards to help with that and am looking forward to seeing how well they work. I will say I feel like the zip ties that come with the halter would not keep my horse from losing his muzzle so I chose to get some a little stronger. I know they have a reason for the zip ties that come with it, but I just didn’t feel they would be strong enough to keep my horse from losing his muzzle.
One very nice thing is you are given a trial period that if it is not working for you, you can send it back.
If you choose this muzzle I really hope it works as well for you as it has me. All the other muzzles out there are heavy or damage the horses teeth. This is lightweight and my horses teeth look good so far.
Once again, this is a great muzzle and I can not say enough good things about it.

  4. Frankie

Just looking at the photos it seems the plastic is over their nostrils in most photos. Not something I’d buy unless that feature was greatly modified.

    • elaine lockhead-castelao

HI Frankie, thank you for your comment. We just posted photos which do a better job of showing how much breathability this muzzle has. Ventilation was one of our primary goals in the development. While we see it everyday and know how comfortable the horses are we are grateful you pointed out our images are not communicating this and we have (hopefully) done a better job on the product page. grazing muzzle ventilation images

My super fat mini pony really needs this. PULEEEEASE make one in mini size soon.

  6. Janice Mueller (verified owner)

I love everything about this muzzle (the clear plastic, the breathing room, the adjustability, the durabiliyty) except one thing — the eating hole is too big (at least for some horses). It is noticeably bigger than the hole in the Best Friends muzzle. My equine nutritionist scored my boy an 8 out of 9 on the BCS scale (“fat”) and said that for him, the grazing hole is too big and lets him get too much grass. He wears the ThinLine muzzle 12 hours a day on pasture, and is on a sand dry lot with small amount of grass hay the remaining 12 hours a day. ThinLine, I hope you’ll consider offering the muzzle in more than one size opening for the overweight horse!

  7. Jonna Reigle

I bought two of these grazing muzzles. I have a gelding who is half draft/ QH and is way over weight. I did buy him a draft size “Tough One” brand grazing muzzle but it seemed a bit too big and bulky and the next size down was way too small. So I kept seeing this particular add pop up on my FB page. So I thought I would give it a try. I bought two because there is free shipping if over $75.00…well the muzzle is $65.00… so since I have 2 horses…I would change over to this muzzle with my other horse and receive the free shipping. I receive the muzzles in the mail and do my best with the zip ties they send you. All looked good not tight to his muzzle but not too loose that it is floppy when grazing. He wore it for 4 days and I was so happy with the product. We went to a weekend baseball tournament and came home to the muzzle off, no zip ties on the halter…just the halter on him.
So now I have to look for this clear plastic muzzle over 5 acres of pasture. No where to be found. We do not live close to any homes or roads. Someone did not come into the fence and cut it off of his halter. Have no idea where it is.
So I get the other one that I bought and put that on him.( other horse can just use the other brand). Three days later I come down in the morning, he comes running in and no muzzle. No zip ties on his halter…no remnants of the plastic thinking it ripped off the halter. So off I go to look for it in the pasture. There it layed. No sign of any zip ties still on it. I am just happy I found this one.
So I give up. I now have only one filly grazing muzzle that lays on the shelf. I am out of $130.00 and I just put the other brand back on him. At least if this one comes off…it is much easier to find in the pasture. The only reason I give it one star is because I was impressed that the holes and the entire piece never ripped. It is good plastic. Hope all of you have a better outcome than I did.

I am sorry your horse has broken the zip ties and lost his muzzle. That is a hassle for sure. Our priorities are safety of the horse first, safety of the expensive polymer the muzzle is made from second and relief from hassles third. As to your post. We are a small company (4 employees) so we try to manage things such as product review posts a few times a week as they are not as important as say, returning emails and helping customers directly. The aggressiveness of 2 product reviews and multiple posts tells me you probably would like a little more personal attention, which we are happy to provide. A request for a replacement to info@thinlineglobal.com would have done the trick. Your muzzles are under warranty. We will replace the lost one and we can send you heavier duty zip ties to try on both muzzles. Only a small portion of horses need the heavier zip ties so we prefer to make safety of the horse our first priority. As to the color, the clear muzzle allows owners to see what is inside the muzzle so they can better manage the health of their pasture horses. And the UV protection is quite good so there are no worries about the sun. We do offer bright pink stickers but I personally know several people who just place some bright colored duct tape on the muzzle if they are turning out in a large pasture for the first few days. I have no idea why your horse is being a challenge with keeping the muzzle on. 98% of horses are just fine with the provided zip ties. Still, we are very confident if we ship you the new muzzle and the new zip ties you and your horses will be very happy. All you need to do is send the email to info@thinlineglobal.com with replacement in the subject line. Then we are out the cash, not you.

I placed a review on here and it was not published. Was it because I only gave it 1 star? Not sure but I would sure like to know.

    • elaine lockhead-castelao

Not at all. We are very happy to hear any and all feedback. We are a small innovative company and when we put new designs on the market there are always a few people who allow us the opportunity to make the products better. The review was not immediately posted because the four of us are quite busy during the day so we tend to review products posts about twice a week. Please know, if you call 888-401-9101 we are always here to speak to you personally and instantly.

My Welsh Pony loves this muzzle. Always head tossed with the other heavy styles. I can walk him out to the pasture in this one with
out having to worry about his head tossing and hitting me. I do need to order the small pad covers to go over the two ties at the nose of his halter as he is getting rubbed just in those two spots.

  10. Pam Johnson (verified owner)

I’m not much to review but I feel like sharing how this has worked for us. It has been wonderful. Three things that I can say have been great for us..1.. is he doesn’t throw his head when putting it on everyday. 2.. Very light weight for all day wearing. 3… He can get into our automatic waterer. It’s a little pricey. Hopefully it last a while but I would highly recommend this muzzle.

  11. Rachael

I have 2 of these muzzles now. The first one I bought in the beginning of June and I received the second one 2 days ago. My air ferns are out on pasture at night and in stalls during the day. Their old muzzles, they used to chew the hole in the bottom bigger to the point that they were useless. So far, I am very impressed with how the Thinline is holding up. It is lightweight and seems quite comfortable.

I do have a couple suggestions that I feel would improve these muzzles, IMHO. I think the hole in the bottom could be smaller. I would also be happier if they came on their own halter instead of having to attach it myself. The first one, I put on a regular halter and even though I ran the zip ties in between the two layers of the halter, it still caused a rub on my pony’s nose overnight. After that I attached it to my old grazing muzzle and just cut the old basket out. The old muzzle had a nice wide (like 3″) noseband with padding and had adjustable cheeks, throat and crown. I did the same with the other muzzle I just got for my other horse. So far, no one has had any rubs or escaped from their muzzle, so I am quite happy. Thank you for your quality products!

  12. Lara (verified owner)

I absolutely love these muzzles. I’ve tried many different kind on all 5 of my horses. They are all very different sized muzzles and jaw bones and I have two who always get rubbed in any other type of muzzle I’ve tried.
Bought these for two and loved how they looked I bout more for my other guys. These muzzles are literally worn 24/7 except when feed there grain. They have healed the sores the other muzzles have caused and they all do really well in them. The color has faded and turned a thick yellow color fairly quickly but overall still does just as well of a job. They are beyond my expectations. Well worth the investment. I’ve had two horses (at different times) get “hung up” and only had to replace two or three zip ties and it was good to go again. No issues, didn’t rip the holes. Would recommend these to everyone.

  13. Suzy

This muzzle has been a lifesaver. My horse is able to go out with the rest of the herd and is no longer trapped in the dry lot! He’s happy and so am I!

  14. Saret

This muzzle is THE BEST by far on the market I have tried them all living in the KY blue grass. The muzzle is light weight and airy. It does NOT rub even while being worn 24/7 ( all other muzzle brands rubbed raw spots w/ continuous wear). The horses don’t even try to remove them and seem to forget they’re on. It has also ( as expected) kept my fattest grass gorger’s weight under control while turned out on lush fields 24/7.
Finally!!! A muzzle that I don’t feel bad about keeping on my horses and that the horses will keep on.

  15. Kimberly Walters (verified owner)

This is the best muzzle out there – lightweight, durable, and my mare can breathe just fine. You can adjust it to ensure it does not touch their nose or mouth in anyway. My mare has gotten it off twice – knocked the low profile zip ties right off to where it is flapping all over the place. Easy to fix with the extra that come with the muzzle, but I have had to purchase more. The muzzle itself has not broken in any way and I would highly recommend it. Now need it in yearling/pony size for my Welsh/TB pony named Diablo! 🙂

  16. Barbara Korol (verified owner)

Love this muzzle !!! My horse is so content with it on,you think she didn’t have one on !!! Just ordered the Mini for my shetland I know she will LOVE getting rid of her old muzzle . Thank you Thinline for developing this great product .

  17. Jill Ellsasser (verified owner)

My horse wears this without a fight. The zip ties have held up the entire season.if I could make one suggestion….make the hole smaller. My boys both live outside 24/7 on super lush fields, during peak grass season I need a smaller hole and have to switch back to the old heavy muzzles ( they both hate them, it’s a huge struggle to get them on. Please please make a smaller hole for the cob size muzzles, Harlan and Beau will thank you ( I will also!)

  18. Kathy Pieper (verified owner)

My Halflinger and I love this product! Have bought and replaced many muzzles over the years until a friend suggested trying this muzzle. Easy to put together and adjust – only needed to replace 1 tie all year. Would highly recommend this product!

  19. Tracie Lear (verified owner)

Love this muzzle. My girl doesn’t seem to mind it at all. I did have it a bit loose and she figure out how to eat around it, but that was on me. She wore it all summer and had no problems at all. She did break one of flaps that hold it in place right at the end of the summer but I think I can work around it next year.

  20. Heather

I LOVE THIS MUZZLE! We use them on a few of our police horses with laminitis and it has been a life saver. We have tried soo many muzzles and they all either broke quickly or the horses would literally run away from us because they hated them so much. We also had many issues with rubs in their faces no matter what we tried. This muzzle has been phenomenal! Has not broken, stays on, breathable and light, causes NO rubs, AND the horses don’t mind them! They never run away from us when we are coming to put them on. Best muzzle, HANDS DOWN! Our guys are hard on them and the only thing we have had to do is replace the zip ties, which we just get from Home Depot.

  21. Sue Martinson

This is by far the best muzzle I’ve purchased and believe me, I’ve probably purchased them all. The only thing I’m a bit disappointed in is when I originally purchased the muzzle I contacted customer service and they told me the muzzle generally last about a year. It seems my horse goes through one every six months.

  22. Tiffany Patterson (verified owner)

Awesome product! Very durable—my horse typically can destroy a muzzle in 2 months flat…either the muzzle gets damaged or the harness straps break. With this product I can fix either problem and the plastic seems more resistant to wear. We’re at 5 months and it still is like new and my mare wears this daily for night turn out. She can still get some grass…but totally slows her down! Highly recommend!

  23. Susan Drover (verified owner)

As the owner of an extremely easy keeper, I’ve always needed a grazing muzzle for my mare. I made the switch last year from one of the most popular muzzles on the market, to the Flexible Filly muzzle and I don’t regret the decision! My mare was much more comfortable in the summer heat, and she never got a rub or a sore from it. The only thing I felt that could have been improved was the option of a smaller hole and now we have it! Thank you to ThinLine for responding to customer feedback, and for providing an excellent product to help keep those “air ferns” at a healthy weight!

  24. Autumn Brown (verified owner)

The ONLY muzzle to ever buy again! Absolutely love these for my quarter horse and mini!

  25. Jamie Campbell (verified owner)

This is such a well designed grazing muzzle. I have a big warmblood, and I was using another grazing muzzle but it rubbed her under her chin, so I needed to fix that. This is a very kind muzzle. It is loose and doesn’t rub around her mouth. One of the ties holding it to the halter did rub a spot on the top of her nose, but adjusting the position of that tie solved that problem. I anticipated that she would resent having to wear a muzzle, but she is very tolerant of it and doesn’t seem to mind at all. I’ve been using it for over a year now, and my mare has trimmed down and is looking good. Sometimes I use it 24/7, and other times I just use it for 12 hour stretches. It has held up fine, I even put it in the washer to clean it and that worked. It is a great help in keeping her weight down and I recommend it to anyone who has a green pastures but easy keepers, or any horse needing grazing restriction.

  26. Ineke van Waardenburg

Finally a muzzle that I feel good about using on my horse. I tried many other muzzles and they were all ill fitting and heavy, resulting in pressure on the poll and sores around his mouth and chin. Zero problems with this one. My horse doesn’t mind it at all and comes over to me and slips his head right in when it’s time for turnout.

  27. Carri (verified owner)

OMG! I absolutely LOVE this grazing muzzle!!! My mare foundered 5 years ago and after getting her healthy again I had to use a grazing muzzle so she could be out with her boys. I did a lot of research back then and chose a muzzle that worked out really well, except it wore her teeth badly. A couple of months ago I realized I needed to purchase another muzzle and I really didn’t want to buy the same one, yet again, due to the teeth wear…and I also didn’t want one of those basket looking ones. So I started researching and came across this one!!!! It works even better than her last one…AND…no wearing of her teeth!!! WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Thank you Thin Line!!!!

  28. Robin Greulich (verified owner)

5 Stars!! I love this product! It and the Thinline halter padding has helped out my Scooter so much! He used to get his other type of grazing muzzle off all the time and put himself in danger of overeating. This grazing muzzle is much more comfortable for him. It stays put throughout the day. It is also much nicer to look at!!

  29. S Williams (verified owner)

I had one last year for my sneezy Houdini! She usually sneezes (constantly) with anything that touches her nostrils – not with this, yeah! She is also very good at getting out of things (muzzles, fences, etc) – but she kept this on several months before she managed to get out of it. This was the best muzzle I’ve used for my PPID/EMS fur baby! Thank you.

  30. Lee Webster Ramensky (verified owner)

Love the Thin Line Flexible Filly grazing muzzles. This time of year is deadly for Connemaras in California. The fast growing Spring grass is too hot for my Irish air ferns. The muzzle lets them nibble, but not gorge and prevents them from getting the hottest part of the plant at the roots. An added benefit to reducing risk of over grazing is that it keeps my naughty gelding from pulling off the youngster’s fly sheet and mask.

  31. Sue Stone (verified owner)

Flexible Filly is by far the very best grazing muzzle on the market, and I have tried many others. It is so lightweight it does not rub on the horse. It is very easy to properly fit the horse using first the disposable ties, then finalizing with the zip ties. There are many vents for great air flow. The most important thing is to make sure your halter you use properly fits the horse behind the jaw line, and then it is impossible for them to remove. I have two horses wearing them to prevent laminitis, and neither has drawn back from placing it on them. They are able to graze and be a horse again instead of being on dry lot. One is on it’s second year with no visible wear and tear, so yes they are very durable. I highly recommend!

  32. Laura (verified owner)

Bought two grazing muzzles for my mare & gelding – both 16 years old. They have made the difference between the horses being in a dry lot or being free to roam the pasture. I had bought two of another brand and both horses were fighting having them put on. No fight with the Thinline’s. I think initially it was because they are light and see through. The previous muzzles were hard black plastic and were uncomfortable and cut down on their ability to breath. In a perfect world, they could just eat all day – but they are easy keepers and would end up in trouble fast without being able to restrict their intake. They are in the muzzles 16 hours a day and in the stall the remaining 8. They are in great shape and still enjoying being a horse. I was also happy with the quality. I figured it would be a once a year expense – but we are on year two and the Thinlne’s are still holding up.

  33. jillellsasser (verified owner)

I love this muzzle, my boys live outside 24/7 at a boarding barn with super lush grass so grazing muzzles are a must. I have spent 14 YEARS doing muzzle battle, un marks, teeth wearing out the fight to get them on, keep them on etc. last year I tried Thin line muzzle it’s a life changer! No fighting, much much easier on teeth ( confirmed by my vet). Easy on light weight I cannot say enough about this amazing product. I also love the second size option for the hole, Perfect for my super easy keeper, he even goes into winter a bit chubby, they definitely get enough to eat.

  34. Patty (verified owner)

I purchased 2 of these for our donkeys. I have tried 5 of the most well known brands of muzzles on them. Some have stayed on well and lasted one year (which is the best I expect), but they rubbed raw spots on their noses. The others the donkeys would either get completely off, or they would get the side of the muzzle in their mouth (like a bit), making it impossible for them to eat or drink.
When the ThinLine muzzles arrived I thought, there’s no way these things are going to last. I was wrong, these are now my favorites of all I’ve tried. They don’t rub!! One of the donkeys has broken the zip ties on his a couple of times – usually just a couple of ties, but once, all of them. Fortunately, I was able to find the muzzle – and it was intact! So I just zipped it on again.
I like these and would recommend them.

  35. Michaela (verified owner)

Best grazing muzzle on the market! This is the only muzzle that my gelding could not get off. I also think he can breathe with it better and it doesn’t seem to bother him as much as a traditional muzzle. It did rub him on the top of his head where the zip tie is, but not nearly as bad as the rubs he gets from other muzzles.

  36. Suzanne Diz (verified owner)

ILOVE this muzzle as does Mav. He doesn’t fight me to put it on and when he breaks it, I replace the tie holding it to his muzzle – not a whole new muzzle. I like that it doesn’t feel like a cage on his nose but a friendly way to control grass I take.

  37. Joanne (verified owner)

This muzzle is a life-saver, literally. After struggling with allergies and sensitivities of all sorts, with reactions including laminitis, our horse was diagnosed with PPID. This muzzle is the only one that he is “content” to wear. Its a must have for us. He can easily eat hay and drink and gets just enough grass. He has no issues interacting when turned out with others. The attachments are easy to replace as needed. We combine with the Better than Fleece lined zip ties and Halter covers. This is much better than keeping him in a paddock all the time.

  38. Sue Bradley (verified owner)

Works great for my laminitic donkey! As much as she doesn’t like not being able to stuff herself, she likes and tolerates this muzzle so much better than the conventional muzzle!

  39. Jan

I have tried more expensive grazing muzzles for my mare with EMS and the best of them was still ruining her teeth. Finally a functional mask that stays in place and works, and she doesn’t seem to mind it at all. Thanks

  40. Susan Gehris (verified owner)

We have tried lots of different types of muzzles, and None worked – except this one ! The horses are very comfortable with it, and there is never a problem (no change in attitude) putting their halters on with it or them developing wear marks fighting the muzzle. It is very easy to keep clean and keep properly connected to the halter – any halter ! And we get great results — Fantastic product !!

  41. Amanda (verified owner)

Love this muzzle. I have a metabolic horse who lives outside, this is the only muzzle I can keep on him. It doesn’t rub his sensitive skin and the size of the hole never changed through the whole season.

  42. Amanda

Great product. My sensitive horse gets rubbed by everything. This muzzle hasn’t left a mark on him and he’s been far more comfortable and tolerant of wearing it

Hands down the best muzzle I have ever used! I have a draft, and the only other muzzle I could find to fit was the Best Friends (the big black basket-looking ones) and he absolutely despised wearing it. It was a fight every time I had to put it on, and he would wear the hole out within a couple months, so I had to buy 2-3 of them a season. Now with the Flexible Filly muzzle, he puts it on willingly, and I’m on my second summer with it and it’s still in great shape! The hole hasn’t worn larger! I am very impressed at how tough these muzzles are despite being so flexible and breathable. I would give it 10 stars if I could!

I bought the muzzle and the halter and the padding. Been using old-fashioned muzzles for years and always struggling to attach scraps of fleece in the right places to prevent the sores that always resulted. Hated feeling sorry every time I put it on her. Finally, a muzzle that doesn’t cause any sores, and is sooo much lighter. I’m sure she’s much, much more comfortable, which makes me happy.

  45. Meghan Merker

I love this muzzle. The design, the non-toxic materials, the comfort and freedom it gives my horses. The only reason I’m giving four stars rather than five is that after two months of use, only at night, a chunk broke off the edge of the hole on my muzzle, enlarging the hole to an unusable size. This wouldn’t have happened if the holes were made with a reinforcement ring around them, like many other muzzles have. And for the price, which is high, the hole should hold up better than it did. That is my only complaint. I’m reordering now, because of my horses’ comfort, and hoping it was a fluke accident and won’t happen again.

We tried a couple muzzles before this one on my older laminitic mare, but we were both unimpressed by our options until we found this one. I won’t go as far as to say that she loves it, but I do! It’s lightweight and breathable which makes her feel comfortable enough to not rub it on everything she can find to get it off and makes me feel better that is isn’t overheating her. I would recommend this muzzle over others – especially more expensive models that ended up in my pasture somewhere…

  47. Maureen Glackin

I really liked it and spent a lot of time getting it properly fitted to my horse. In less than 12 hours his buddies in the field chewed through the zip ties and freed him of the muzzle (as reported to me by a barn worker who saw what was going on). If you’re turning him out with other horses, this might not be the muzzle for you.

  48. Lee Young

I have a suggestion for people who are afraid they might lose the clear muzzle in the field and not be able to find it. Cut smallish sections of reflective tape (the kind you can buy to put on the side of your horse trailer for better visibility at night) and place them on the outside of the muzzle on all four sides. I trail ride and put the neon duct tape on items that I might drop so they are easier to find. Rider for 58 years now. I give this a 5 star rating. I bought this for my insulin resistant Paso Fino mare . I rent a farmhouse and the field’ were my horse grazes is 11 1/2 acres I can’t making any changes because it’s not my property. The field is grass and clover mix she shares the field with three steers and my three-quarter Peruvian mare. They hardly make a dent in the enormous amount of grass that is available. So a grazing muzzle is a must. I have used the bucket nose type of muzzle. But I never liked how they fit they always hung off of her nose in a very uncomfortable looking way. I wasn’t sure about this muzzle and how will I could fit it. But I took my time and it was not difficult to adjust at all I also bought the halter and the pads. I used heavy duty zip ties because the field is so big if this muzzle comes off it will be very difficult to find. I took bright pink duct tape and taped all around the halter and as I always do in the leather breakaway part of the halter I took scissors and made a slight cut so if she gets caught on anything it will not break at the muzzle but instead will break at the headstall. With it being wrapped in pink tape I should be able to find it if she took it off at least for now. The field is usually allowed to grow and is not mowed until August. So hopefully she will not get it off once the grass gets really high. However I love the fit I was able to adjust it perfectly I put the heavy zip ties on and they actually went through the same slots on the halter. It was a little bit hard pushing them through and getting them pulled down. I snipped them off very short with a pair of hoof Nippers so they were flush making sure that they were not facing toward her nose. I called and asked for advice in choosing the halter and was extremely pleased it was suggested that she would need a pony size and amazingly she did and it fit perfectly. The halter is a very nicely made Breakaway type and the pads have a super strong Velcro I mean I would not ever expect the pads to come undone. I love the muzzle because I can see her nose through it it absolutely allows her nostrils to be clear of the plastic so she can breathe through. If you follow the instructions and use the twist ties to test it there is no reason for the horse’s nostrils to be obstructed. I simply took my time and use those twist ties and I was able to get the perfect adjustment. I know it has to be a million times more comfortable for her it’s so much lighter. The size was actually the horse cob size and that worked out perfect combined with a pony size halter. It’s a big enough muzzle but not too big and bulky the material that is made of you can tell is super strong super sturdy and is not going to wear out for quite a long time. I love that the hole will not start to wear out and end up becoming too large. I constantly had to take the other muzzle to the Amish and have a hoof pad zip tied on because the other kind had a rubbery substance that usually begin to breakdown and enlarge. This is a really great product that is worth what I paid for it. I know my horse is much much more comfortable.

I just purchased the thin line, pony sized grazing muzzle for my mini. He is a large mini cross (big boned and thick 39 1/2″ high guy). I love the muzzle. It is fits him well, is lightweightand breathable. It doesn’t get hot like the black basket muzzles will. Best of all, he doesn’t look like miserable but he is still wearing a muzzle. Go figure! He lost weight right away too, so it is working! I also ordered him the thinline halter but it was too big (pony size), so I used his current halter with zipties for the muzzle. The thinline padding straps are absolutely the Best! I highly recommend purchasing those whether you buy their halter or not. I have bought and made my own padding for his other muzzles, but I have never used anything as nice as these are. If your horse wears a muzzle, these are a must buy imo.

5* product and 5* customer service! I had excellent help with fitting information and instructions from the beginning! I just have a very special horse lol. After loosing my brand new ThinLine muzzle in an 18 acre pasture this wonderful company sent me a brand new one no questions asked. I have a Houdini Appaloosa that figured out how to get the muzzle separated from the halter the first day it was on(he has done it with every single other brand as well. I have tried them ALL) and it disappeared never to be found again lol. When my new one came in I just put some heavier zip ties on and that solved the problem. He wears it 24/7. I am so incredibly happy with this muzzle I have ordered a 2nd and plan to order a 3rd and 4th for my other horses. The breathability, lightness, flexibility, and comfort to the horse are not matched by any other grazing muzzle on the market IMO! *****

I love this grazing muzzle! I have used many over the years but this one has been the best so far. Love that it is adjustable, fits my hard to fit fat pony wonderfully! And it leaves no rub marks. Also, love that it is easily washable. All around great muzzle!

  53. linda barnes

First time muzzle owner. Have had it on my 20 year old Morgan mare for about 3 months now. Loved everything about it except I just noticed she has bitten the hole bigger, Actually taken a piece out and there are about three 1/2″ tears along the hole. We did make the hole about 1/2cm larger but made sure the hole was smooth and even when we trimmed it. She has no problem wearing it and she only grazes for 2 hours a day. We also purchased the grazing halter to make sure it fit just perfect. Any suggestions as we will need a new one.

Have had these two muzzles for a few months now. I love how lightweight it is, and it does not rub my ponies at all. With the heavier basket muzzles, they’d evade being haltered with them and seemed to prefer the dry lot to a muzzle with pasture. Now they don’t mind the muzzle at all. I don’t like that the muzzle cannot be removed and reattached easily (it can – but many zipties are involved and it takes a while) so it’s a process to readjust or switch halters. Also, pay attention to sizing – if the muzzle is too big they can eat from the side cracks quite a bit and it will put pressure on the zipties and break them. My 14.1 WelshX usually takes a horse or Arab/cob size halter/fly mask yet the cob/horse size muzzle is too large for her. She is moving to a mini/pony size. My 10h Shetland is too small for the mini/pony muzzle but it still slows him down quite a bit.

  55. Elaine Thousand

Great customer service! I wasn’t sure I had the muzzle correctly fitted and the representative was very helpful on the phone. I recommend buying the compatible halter, it’s a lot easier to get the muzzle to hang straight. I was pleased to see my horse drinking from the automatic waterer without a problem due to the muzzle’s flexible material.

  56. BJ

I purchased this product because it is light weight, soft and durable. Unfortunately, my mare, a 16 hand mustang, found a way to eat out of the side, even though I adjusted it several times per the advice of the ThinLine staff. I love this product, but it needs to be redesigned/re-engineered to prevent this issue. I hope they are working on this, because it would become THE go to muzzle over all others! I’ve purchased, used and evaluated more grazing muzzles than I can count – I have a VERY EASY KEEPER who is on restricted grazing. This product is closest to what I need than any other muzzle … just not there yet.

    • elaine lockhead-castelao

*Historically, if horses are eating out of the sides then the grazing hole is too small for the grass they are on. Simply enlarging the grazing hole solves this problem. Directions are on the website but all you need is a pair of scissors.

  57. Cailey Higgins (verified owner)

Best product I have ever bought for my fat pony! It works so well my gf bought one for her horse who has Cushings. She never let’s her out because the mare hates her current muzzle. This muzzle allows the horse to breathe. When my pony sees me walking up with it, she comes and sticks her head right into it, no more wrestling to get it on her and she gets to go out with the herd instead of being left behind. It has turned my once stubborn pony, into a joy to handle. Highly recommend to anyone who must use a muzzle on their horse, it allows them to graze without risking their health.

  58. Sue

One star for first horse; 5 stars for second horse. Pro is that horses have no problem using waterer. Cons – one horse eats from the side between the fins, even w/ muzzle in contact w/ his lips. I enlarged the hole but he still prefers to go between the fins. Got a rub mark on his lip from doing so. He (or a turnout pal) also tore off the bottom fin. The muzzle has worked well for the second horse.

I have tried a couple of different types of grazing muzzles for my Clydesdale mare, all of which she hated with a passion. I dreaded feeding time when I would have to remove the muzzle then put it back on. I would have to have a halter on her, tie her down from both sides, have a strap fastened around her neck so that when I finally got the muzzle on her nose I could unbuckle the halter, switching one of the lead ropes to the strap around her neck, then fasten the muzzle halter on her. It was a huge ordeal every day! She even started to become nippy, which is not her character.

Finally I found this Flexible Filly muzzle. It has made a huge difference! I wouldn’t go so far to say that she actually likes it, but she doesn’t try to kill me when I put it on her. Now when I feed her I can slip the muzzle off and just use the strap round her neck to keep her from getting away from me when I put it back on her. I really like this muzzle and it does a good job keeping her from gaining too much weight over the spring/summer season. I do have to get a new one each year because by the end of the season she has enlarged the grazing hole quite a bit. Still completely worth it to me….I just ordered my third one for next spring.

  60. Suzanne

This grazing muzzle was the best thing I ever purchased! My mare has a big head and all the traditional muzzles would rub her chin and leave marks but this can be fit to whatever size you want. She actually didn’t mind it go on everyday and can easily keep cool with it being so airy too. It did eventually break and only lasted one full season but it definitely helps us.

  61. Lisa

Elizabeth Roberson writes: I like this muzzle very much. It is the lightest weight muzzle I’ve been able to find, and I truly believe it is the least obtrusive to the horse. In addition, horses don’t seem to use it as a weapon…they will swing those big, heavy muzzles at you when you are putting them on sometimes, but they don’t do that with these muzzles.

  62. Megan (verified owner)

I absolutely love this product. I have an extremely easy keeper who has hated every other muzzle I’ve put on him. This muzzle is completely different, he doesn’t mind getting it put on every night and it keeps the weight OFF! Will be buying this again in the future.

  63. Susan Few (verified owner)

This is by far the best grazing muzzle! I have tried every muzzle that looked like it would be comfortable and work for my horses and pony. They always tried to get the black rubber ones off but they don’t seem to mind the Thin line ones at all. They are also easy to clean for reuse each evening. I have 2 Hanoverians and 1 Gypsy Vanner pony using them. I also bought the halters and they work great with the muzzle. These muzzles are well worth the price. I bought extras to have on hand but the first ones are holding up great. The larger hole size works well for my guys and mare and their weight is perfect. They are turned out from evening to morning in the Summer. Thank you for developing the best muzzle on the market!

  64. Sandra (verified owner)

I hated to give three stars to this product because it works very well on both of my horses – a large pony and a draft cross. What I like about it is that it is light weight, it works well and doesn’t ever rub either of them anywhere on their faces or muzzle, and they have never tried to get it off. My horses do not abuse it, however I have now purchased five of these – two for the large horse and three for the pony – since April. So I’m roughly $300 into owning these and that qualifies them as the most expensive grazing muzzle purchase I’ve ever made. The problem I’ve found on each one that has broken is that the flaps tear and the zip ties will break. My big horses has kept his original one until just two weeks ago when one of the flaps tore down to the hole. The pony has had four – all with the tearing issue. Also, you’d better be prepared to invest in their special halter. It makes a huge difference in the accuracy of the fit. Because they don’t create sores on my horses and they allow so much more breathing room and comfort than the black basket muzzles I’ve always used, I will continue to buy them. Also, spend the time to review their sizing and fitting instructions and any videos on the site. My pony measures between the small and the pony and I finally found on the last muzzle that the smaller size produces a better fit for her. My chief complaint is that I wish they lasted a little longer. And I’m looking forward to fall and winter when they won’t need to wear them and I can save up to buy more next spring.

This muzzle makes me so happy! The 2 features that I love are that my gelding can breath and it is very lightweight! Also I love the halter and pads, they fit him perfectly and he has no rubs now. I always hated putting those heavy black bucket type muzzles on him that also smelled really bad! One feature I would recommend you work on is a little more coverage where the slits come down close to his mouth. It took him a long time but he figured out how to eat out of the side. He has a laminitis issue and I am concerned that he might get too much grass. Could the design be configured a little differently to limit the ability for a horse to sneak grass on the side? Thank you!

  66. Kay

Teeth saver! My pony is really sensitive to grass and spends quite.a bit of time in a muzzle. The harder ones were wearing his teeth, the wear is growing out w this one!
NB..you really have to check the adjustment…the little dweeb figured how to eat out the sides at one point! And if you have a really food motivated one, keep a few extra zip ties on hand.

  67. Leslie Underwood (verified owner)

My horse and I love this muzzle! He was having a problem with wearing of his teeth with the previous muzzle, most likely due to the hard material and the way he stabbed at the grass to eat. The Flexible Filly muzzle is so soft, and my boy now allows the muzzle to skim across the grass as he eats…no scraping his teeth against a hard surface. Using the Flexible Filly halter made adjusting the muzzle easy and it fits great. I love how easily I can place it on my horse. It’s so light weight and he seems really relaxed and comfortable using it. I also bought the halter padding and no longer have to worry about dirty, wet fleece to prevent rubs. What a wonderful product and a life saver for my special guy!

  68. Tina Evans (verified owner)

LOVE-LOVE-LOVE! This is the FIRST grazing muzzle my IR gelding has NOT tried to destroy by finding a tree or fence post to try and take off. It’s also the first one his pasture mate brother has not tried to grab hold of and try to pull off either! LOL. He no longer runs the other direction when he sees it in my hand so no more chasing all over 5.5 acres! It’s comfortable enough for him to wear now where at times he won’t come in at night to have me remove it; he can still eat hay through it; and moreover, he can still grab the jolly ball and play with his brother with no issues! He’s never tried to eat from the sides either. I love the fact that this muzzle allows more air flow than all the others we’ve used and it also allows me to have his fly mask on without ‘overheating’ him. I also love that it doesn’t “press” on his nose because it’s so lightweight and it’s even UV protected. While I normally purchase “Cob” size for him, I did have to get the draft size for him. The Cob size was just too small for him. He’s a SSH, but his head is a bit larger than most. The Draft size fits perfectly tho. I also used a regular halter (irony here,, had to go to a pony size halter, reg. size was too big! LOL) and had no issues at all. The muzzle attached to it easily and fit him the way instructions said it was supposed to. It’s been a win/win! Excellent product. I highly recommend this muzzle over all others now.

  69. Ann

I bought the muzzle and the halter with padding for a miniature horse, very worried that he would remove it instantly. So far, a week later, he seems to be tolerating it very well and eating comfortable through the single hole. It does take some patience to get the adjustment correct but worth the time. So far very pleased with it.

  70. Jessica Manson (verified owner)

This muzzle is the only one I have found that’s comfortable for my horse. However, after about 6 weeks of wear, it is beginning to rip and I need to replace it. It’s worth buying again to keep my horse happy, but I’m not looking forward to spending $75 every 6 weeks or so.

  71. Carol Carter (verified owner)

I bought the largest for my draft cross and it is working very well so far. I like that it provides more airflow then the previous muzzle that I was using. It did take some time to get adjusted properly but it was worth it.

I absolutely love the ThinLine Grazing Muzzle! I’ve had it for almost 2 weeks now. One of my favorite parts is that I was able to use my own halter. Luckily the one I have is adjustable to be a bit larger, which works best for this. Setting up the muzzle was very easy and straight forward with the instructions included. They include “bread ties” to simply adjust properly and the flat laying zip ties hold the placement secure. I did buy the halter pads which help keep everything off of her face, she has NO rub marks! My mare got used to the muzzle very easily as well as drinking water with it on, too! It is easy to clean and I did take a small scissors to widen the opening just a bit more. I like the flexible plastic, it DID NOT leave jagged areas when I cut the opening and there are no teeth/scraping marks on it and her teeth and gums do not look damaged so far. I have a very moody mare and she actually does not seem to mind putting this on and she can be a great Houdini.

I tried the Deluxe Tough 1 with V-Straps and it just did not fit her head properly no matter how I adjusted the multiple straps and I’d say she has a pretty average quarter horse face. The basket muzzle didn’t seem as easy to clean either. As for visuals, I love the clear look of the muzzle – less Hannibal Lector look.

    Thank you, ThinLine!

  73. Jenny and Hope (verified owner)

My farrier recommended your ThinLine Grazing Muzzle. It was easy to fit (I bought your halter too) and my horse immediately went back to grazing – it took her NO time to acclimate to the new muzzle at all. She can drink with it on, it doesn’t seem to bother her in hot weather – and it stays ON and doesn’t rub or chafe. She also wears it so that she doesn’t get sunburned on her very pink Appy muzzle. It’s also nice because it doesn’t look too “offensive” like some of the other muzzles on the market, so I have no problem putting it on (and I have no guilt about leaving it on). I was so excited about the muzzle that I even sent pictures and a video to my equine veterinarian! Thank you ThinLine!

  74. Sharon

Love the design and the comfort, but unless you come up with a heavy-duty reinforced design I won’t be buying again. My mare has torn the hole larger in 3 weeks. She normally tears the bottom from the bucket style in less than an hour, so I guess it’s some improvement.

FINALLY A GRAZING MUZZLE MY HORSES ACCEPT AS IT IS COMFORTABLE! I had tried nearly every grazing muzzle on the market and was about to give up when I found Flexible Filly by Thinline. I purchase both the muzzle and the custom halter for my fat Friesian Cross gelding and my thoroughbred mare who recently had a bout of laminitis. The plastic is cool, comfortable, easy to rinse clean and no rubs. My horses do not attempt to remove the muzzle/halters on trees or fence anymore as they actually accept the Flexible Filly. I noted that some customers complain about the muzzle coming off but please remember if your horse should entrap his muzzle or halter on an object you want it to break free to avoid injury. Those zip ties are designed to release with a certain amount of tension as a safety feature–just like the breakaway strap on the halter. I am very happy with this product as is my equine vet. A great investment for my horses’ heath and well being.

  76. Jill Klosterman (verified owner)

Just purchased my third flexible filly muzzle. My horses come to me to put them on and they don’t seem to have any issues wearing them. Definitely has improved their quality of life. Also, thinline customer service is stellar!!

  14. I used the Flexible Filly Muzzle all last year for both of my mares. I really like them, and feel soooo much better about my horses having to wear them pretty much 24/7. My question is my 14.3 quarter horse has a head that is rather small. I am wondering if I should try a pony size muzzle for her. (She is wearing a cob halter.) The cob/horse size muzzle is so large she can eat out of the sides and does not use the restricted center hole. This sideways motion causes her to rub the hair off of her face from the halter even with padding. A I would. I have a14. 2 SSH that usually is a COB size. I ordered the COB size muzzle but for him, it was too small. I was able to return and get the draft size for him which fits perfect. (The irony? His halter is pony size!) He just has a very large muzzle. So try the smaller size and see if that fits her better.

  19. Q Will the muzzle work on long grass - over a foot long? answer now
A It can, but I found that it is very difficult for the horse. Grass that tall tends to flatten down when the horse pushes the muzzle on it and therefore makes it harder for them to get their teeth to pull in the grass blades. I found, for my horse, It works best when the grass is no higher than 6"-8".

When your muzzle fits well and your horse is only able to eat out of the center hole during a test hand graze, you're good to go to enlarge the grazing hole.

  35. Q Putting ties on answer now
A Your grazing muzzle comes with two sets of ties. The temporary twist ties are used for fitting and the zip ties will be used once you've selected the holes to use on the muzzle. The muzzle fins are placed on the outside of the noseband. The zip ties go through the holes on the muzzle fin and wrap around the inside of the noseband to secure. They should be oriented so that the end of the tie is facing down once secured and any extra length of tie should be trimmed off. Please feel free to call with any questions! 888-401-9101
