This wither-freeing saddle pad with ThinLine is the most comfortable and effective shock absorber for both horses and riders. Every ThinLine pad comes with this amazing ThinLine material.
High Wither Saddle Pad
We designed this best wither freedom pad exclusively for horses with high withers and riders who wish for a split opening at the front of the pad. By adding comfort, shock absorption, and wither relief in this new design, we give you the best saddle pad for your high withered horse.
This pad is designed to create that no-saddle-pad look with all the shock absorption you need to have your horse perform at their best. Fits well on Saddle Seat, Dressage, and All-Purpose Saddles. See our article on horse wither anatomy.
*This pad is shimmable for additional saddle fit needs.
Thinline is the only product endorsed by surgeons, master saddlers & veterinarians.
What makes ThinLine so different?
“The manner in which this product absorbs motion encourages horses to lift their backs, developing strength and top-line. It has been endorsed by Veterinarians, for horses, as well as Spinal Surgeons for riders. It is a top pick for Master Saddlers around the world. Equine Chiropractors and Massage Therapists carry it on their trucks to keep horses going strong, supple, and relaxed. Trainers and riders find it a trusted product to improve rider equitation.
It is the dual benefits of extraordinary shock absorption and rider motion reduction that sets ThinLine apart from other saddle pads.
Ease of use and a perfect fit are hallmarks of this English cut back wither saddle pad. When using this full saddle pad your Thinline is always in the right place. It eliminates the need to use multiple pads, thereby reducing tack-up time and unnecessary thickness. The 95% shock absorption rate and no-slip properties of ThinLine mean you have all you need for equine comfort and protection. It is easy to wash in a front loader machine.
Made with ThinLine (3/16″) over a high-quality quilted cotton base pad, creating a contoured wither profile and spine-free channel. This design allows the ThinLine to lay on either side of the spine so that it is always in the right place. Delivering the maximum shock absorbency in the minimum thickness.Â
Available in Black and Dark Brown
20″ spine | 17.5″ Drop | 16″ Flap width
Trainers such as Jim Paden (pictured right) have discovered the value of this shock-absorbing pad both in the show ring and at home for improving horses’ gaits and riders’ seats. Â Jim now uses ThinLine on all his show and school horses.
Saddle Fitting with ThinLine Shims
Our trim to fit shims may be used as a full shim to double your protection or you may easily create front, bridging, and rear shims by cutting the full trim-to-fit shim with a pair of scissors.
Hand or machine wash cold in front loading washer. Spin to remove excess water. Hang to dry naturally with no heat source, including sun. Using a fan speeds the drying process.
All pads come with a one-year full replacement warranty when following our care instructions.
How to Buy Outside the USA

Love this pad! Fits my saddlebred with cutback saddle nicely. Thinline does 100% help my back. I moved and stopped using Thinline for a few months and my back was killing me. Couldn’t figure it out until I started using it again and no more back pain!

Thanks for your question! The Wither Relief Pad fits a wide range of english saddles.Â
The best way to learn if it's a good fit is to measure your saddle's "footprint" and compare to the pad measurements.
20″ spine length |22" full length
16″ flap width | 14″ across seat
I have a high withered horse with a very short back. How do I measure her back for fitting this pad? I use an all purpose stubben saddle that fits very well. I may not need a shimmed pad but can't find a cutback or pad in your line other than this one. Is this the only pad that might work for a high withered horse or can you recommend another one too?

Hi Jeri, thanks for your question!Â
The Wither Relief Pad is a great option for high withered horses and the measurements are: 20″ spine | 17.5″ Drop | 16″ Flap width
You can compare these to your saddle's measurements to see if this pad will be a good fit.
Since you have a well fitting saddle and do not necessarily need a shimmable pad, please check out our new Perfect Fit pad. It's a wonderful update to our Basic pad line and the new design offers great wither clearance!
Almost all of our pads, except the Basic line, offer a contoured topline with structure and lift at the wither.Â
