What is ThinLine?

ThinLine is a thin, shock absorbing non slip breathable foam and is the only product endorsed by surgeons, master saddlers, riders and veterinarians.

Where is the ThinLine?

It is sewn onto the panel of our saddle pads.

“The manner in which ThinLine absorbs motion encourages horses to lift their backs, developing strength and top-line.  It has been endorsed by Veterinarians, for horses, as well as Spinal Surgeons for riders. It is a top pick for Master Saddlers around the world. Equine Chiropractors and Massage Therapists carry it on their trucks to keep horses going strong, supple and relaxed.  Trainers and riders find it a trusted product to improve rider equitation.

It is the dual benefits of extraordinary shock absorption and rider motion reduction that sets ThinLine apart from other saddle pads.

This is hands down one of the best products we do.  You will feel all the sensations of your horses’ back muscles while enjoying all the shock absorption and non slip features of the trademark ThinLine foam.  Balance, comfort and security can all be yours in this half pad.   You will find yourself sitting correctly, developing great core strength while finding a close but quiet communication with your horse.  Equines love this half pad- they feel unified with their rider.  So go ahead, it is time to have the ride of your life.

Product Features:

  • This sheepskin trim half pad is shimmable for customized saddle fit, likewise, shims are made of the same trademark foam.
  • The shaped wither profile provides clearance while the ThinLine creates a spine free channel.
  • 95% shock absorption is provided by the ThinLine foam which also minimizes rider movement for a quieter seat.
  • Sleek design fits under both off the rack and custom saddles allowing for a close contact feel.
  • ThinLine’s open cell technology provides 100% breathability and a non-slip saddle fit.
  • The Sheepskin trim trifecta gives riders the look of sheepskin with more protection and less thickness.

Available in White, Black, Natural and Dark Brown. (Small available in White and black only)

Or, after you place this pad in your cart the shims option will appear below your selection.

Available Saddle Fitting Shims:

  • Full Booster Shim: A pair of shims running the full panel will create ThinLine Plus (1/4 inch) Thickness for intense protection.
  • Front Shims:  usually used to provide lift in the wither area while filling in shallow shoulders.
  • Bridging Shims  generally used for hollow backs. Especially good for horses with lackluster top lines.
  • Rear Shims: For the most part, used to lift the cantle of the saddle to achieve balance.
  • Kits are available for purchasing multiple sets of shims.

Medical Grade Sheepskin Wash Instructions

Our products come with a full-year warranty provided they are cared for as directed.

Regular maintenance: Dry between rides. Place the pad sheepskin face up in a cool environment, in humid climates use a fan to blow over the pad. Once the pad is dry, lightly brush it with a pet brush to help to keep the wool fluffy and resilient for the next ride.

Washing and drying: Sheepskin saddle pads are best washed by hand in cold water. Using only Eucalan Delicate Wash keeps your pad under warranty. You may machine wash (although hand wash is preferred) in a front loader, no agitators against the ThinLine panels, gentle wash cycle, cold. Remove excess water in the pad by squeezing the water out or placing in your washing machine on the spin cycle. Please do not use Melp!

Fill washing machine (or bathtub for really large items) with water, then add Eucalan. Soak for 1 hour squeezing soap and water through item from time to time. If the item is really dirty you may need to repeat the process. Squeeze or use the spin cycle to remove excess water and lay over a rack or rail to dry with sheepskin facing up. Keep out of the sun, and away from direct heat and dryers. Please do not brush or pull sheepskin fibers when wet. To prevent shrinkage, gently stretch the hide while drying.

Full Sheepskin Pads may take 2-3 days to dry. Sheepskin trimmed items should be good to go in a day. The ThinLine shim may slow drying time, we recommend placing absorbent products such as paper towels or chamois cloths inside the pocket.

You can use Scotch Guard the rolls to keep them clean and extend washing cycles.

When the care instructions are followed properly, our sheepskin pads are proving to have an expected 4-5 years of use.

“I just bought a ThinLine half pad to use for shows, and I am SO pleased with it! The quality is far superior to any other pad that I have ever used. I’ve had a Thinline on my wishlist forever, and now that I have one for shows, I am going to save up to get one for everyday use. At my last horse show, my horse’s gaits received a score of 7 in all three of his Dressage tests, and I know that the Thinline made a positive difference in his way of moving and his comfort. Thanks so much for making products that positively impact my pony. Now, I only wish that I had purchased one sooner! Thanks a million!” – Emily Grinstead.

Catherine Norman: I love my trifecta half pad!! Made my horse much happier before he got a well-fitting saddle and I really notice a difference in my back when I jump without it.

“So happy with the horse show! Duchess was fantastic! We won our $1,500 Low Child/Adult Jumper Classic and ended with a first, third and fourth in the Low Child/Adult Jumper division which made us Reserve Champion. I ride her in the Ultra ThinLine Trifecta Half Pad. So happy with Duchess!” – Irene Kaar.

Absolutely love this pad !! Use it for both my horses and it has helped significantly . One of my horses was thin when I got him and it made it so much more comfortable for both of us for our rides! And really looks nice under the saddle as well! I would recommend this product to anyone who wanted a saddle pad that looked nice for both schooling and showing and really helped relieve pain and improve the overall ride . Thanks Thinline!

Absolutely love this pad! I have a Quarter horse and she doesn’t have a hard-to-fit back, but it’s a tabletop. I ride both English and Western, and wanted to get this little half pad to help until I get a new English saddle since the one I currently use is a little narrow on her. I stuck this pad on and it was like the saddle wasn’t too narrow at all! It made a huge difference in the way that she rode, so much that I’m seriously considering saving up to buy the western version of this pad so I can stick it underneath her mayatex pads for when we show!

I love all the ThinLine saddle pads! This half pad is a great option for my custom saddles. It doesn’t interfere with the fit of the saddle but still offers the great benefits on the ThinLine pad and it’s durable enough for every day use. Definitely a must have pad.

I was recommended by my coach to buy a Thinline half pad for under my saddle. I bought it a week after I bought my horse, 3 years ago, and I’ve used it ever since. On March 28th 2017, I had a saddle fitter come out to fit a new saddle to my horse. She said because my new saddle fit so well, I now longer needed to use a half pad. I wanted to continue to use my Thinline for the shock absorbing effects as I ride often for long periods of time. I stopped using my Thinline the next day (March 29th), and went about my riding. About a week and a half after, I had terrible back pain. I’ve never had so much back pain before and I couldn’t think of what I had done differently to have this pain. I was randomly scrolling on the internet one morning, looking at what material offers the best shock absorbing effects and Thinline products were rated number 1! That’s when I clued in that my back had been hurting due to not using my Thinline half pad! I started using it again and my pain has subsided. My original pad I had, was the Ultra Thinline Cotton pad with Sheepskin and I recently bought just the Ultra Thinline pad, as it doesn’t have as much bulk as the cotton pad has. I rated this product a 5/5. I’ve recommended this product to others. I will never go Thinline-less or use any other half pad! Thanks Thinline for keeping both riders and horses happy and comfortable!

I love my ThinLine pads! I get a closer feel with the peace of mind of the shock absorption. My horse goes very well with these lads and let me tell you, she is sensitive! They are also incredibly durable and last forever when cared for. I have one for schooling and one for showing. I wouldn’t put anything else under my saddle!

My horse used to have lots of back issues but ever since I started using the Trifecta half pad he hasn’t had a single problem. It’s great quality and they look great. I absolutely love mine.

I am not in to a lot of todays equestrian targeted gear because I think a lot of it is super gimmicky and overpriced. But let me tell you something…I would give a kidney to keep my thinline pad. At my first show of the season (we are rehabbing) last weekend I used my Ecogold Stabilizer show pad and couldn’t get my thinline half pad situated on top of it. My back KILLED me for the next 3 days. I thought it was just the jumping that aggravated it as we have been focusing on flat work. Last night we hauled Ella out for a jump school…and today my back only has its normal pain (a riding injury left me with constant mild back pain). I’m sold. 500%. I didn’t even notice that my back hasn’t been bothering me after rides like it used to since I switched to the ThinLine half pad but after riding without it? I definitely noticed. Now I’ll be ordering another thinline pad to use over my show pad.

  1. No. Infact it is one of the reasons master saddlers love them. Without shims, Ultra ThinLine pads do not alter custom saddle fit. But, if you have a fitting problem you can add shims to any Ultra ThinLine pad. Best of both worlds!
