ThinLine Flexible Filly Grazing Muzzle
The days are getting longer, daffodils and tulips are poking through the soil, The Girl Scouts just sold us cookies, and before you know it, spring will officially be in full swing. With it comes your horse’s favorite: fresh grass. It’s important for all horse owners to monitor their horse’s spring grass intake, but even more so if you have an “easy keeper”.
Why should I use a muzzle?
Each Spring, pastures, paddocks, and fields encounter their massive growth powered by warmer days, sunshine & rain. This is a perfect recipe for high-quality, green, good stuff your horse loves. However, to ensure horses remain healthy and avoid digestive and metabolic upset, they need to be slowly introduced to such lush and delicious pastures. Acclimating your horse to spring grass takes time, and requires slowly increasing the amount of time they have access to grass. The Flexible Filly Muzzle can greatly aid in this!
Studies have shown that horses with metabolic issues, like Cushing’s disease, insulin resistance, or “easy keepers” can benefit from using a muzzle to decrease the amount of sugary grass consumed. By doing this, these horses are at a much lower risk of developing laminitis, equine metabolic syndrome, and other preventable problems.
Additionally, keeping a muzzle on your horse over the summer may be beneficial if your horse’s turnout schedule increases, and in turn, they would be eating more. In some areas of the world, the rapid green growth continues from spring all the way to fall, so the risks of sugary grass continue. Also, any increase in turnout hours means more calories – and some horses don’t need that.
Why this muzzle?
