The Busy Buddy (horse pacifier) is the ultimate relaxation tool for horses!
Developed for all horses, young and old, here are just a few things the Halter Busy Buddy and the Bridle Busy Buddy can do. Both provide instant drug-free relaxation!
The Busy Buddy horse calmer is the perfect way to encourage your horse to relax in a variety of situations without having to use supplements, medications, or techniques such as twitching.
How the Busy Buddy for horses works
Historically we work our horses until they relax. Now we can relax our horses and then begin work.
When horses are relaxed we can see gentle chewing, licking, or saliva which looks like foam. Properly activating the jaw generates relaxation throughout the horse’s entire body and brain.
The Busy Buddy stimulates the relaxation process in all horses. We believe this is the most profound product for the health and well-being of horses introduced to the equestrian world.
Halter Busy Buddy:
- Stops fretting, biting, and kicking in the cross ties.
- Provides horses with a relaxing toy during clipping and grooming.
- Gently introduces the sensation of a bit in the mouth while encouraging relaxation and chewing.
- Pacifies horses’ for the vet, without using sedatives.
- Entertains horses during farrier work.
- Used while lunging; encourages relaxation of the jaw and muscles over the back.
Busy Buddy Halter Size Adjuster:
Add this headstall size adjuster to create the perfect easy fit with your Halter Busy Buddy. Clips fit onto the convenient rings, one-handed cord keeper allows you to adjust the size. *No halter is needed when using the additional size adjuster.
Bridle Busy Buddy:
Is specially designed to be used with a bridle and a bit.
- Young horses learn to relax and “chew” when introducing the bit.
- Older horses relax their top-lines faster when warming up.
- Entertains your horse while standing around at horse shows.
- Relaxes them on trail rides for a better experience.
- Lunging in a bridle? Add the Bridle Busy Buddy for more relaxation.
Bridle Busy Buddy arrives with 2 different attachment styles. We have found the position of the Busy Buddy can have a large effect. Some horses respond really well to the higher position (with the S hooks) and some like it lower. Play around with it and discover where your horses’ sweet spot is!

How do I shorten the halter busy body. It drops to low for my pony.
-
A
Thanks for your question! To shorten the Busy Buddy, twist off the guard ring that attaches the clip to the rope, then remove the clip.
Shorten the rope to the appropriate length.
Insert the rope end into the clip and twist the guard ring closed.
See the short video here.

My busy buddy didn’t come with a clip… how do I attach it???
-
A
Thank you for your question!
The bridle Busy Buddy comes with 2 ways of attaching it to your horse-
S hooks to attach the Busy Buddy ends to the bit end of your cheek pieces
Run the velcro strap through the Busy Buddy rings and attach behind your horse's chin
Some horses respond well to the higher positioning created by using the S hooks. Some prefer the lower positioning created by using the velcro chin strap.
With either method, the Busy Buddy should fit loosely in the horse's mouth, not pulling on the corners.
I have a horse that cribs badly. Does this help with cribbing? And is it safe to leave it on for extended time like when they’re grazing or eating hay?

Thank you for your question! We so wish that the Busy Buddy was the answer to total cribbing prevention! It can help though!
Some owners find that offering your horse a Busy Buddy session here and there helps reduce overall stress and slow down the need to crib as much. It is not recommended to use it while eating or while the horse is unattended.
Can a horse chew through the Busy Buddy?
-
A
The Busy Buddy should fit loosely in the horse’s mouth, it should not pull the corners of their mouth. Find the position where they begin to chew. The Busy Buddy should not be sitting high enough for them to chew with teeth.

Using this for a pony I am rehabbing w a number of on-the-ground exercises. When he gets bored or nervous he chews on my reins or grabs my whip and chews on that. Or picks cones up. Or picks pole risers up. This cut that behavior down a lot!
He has a small mouth w not much room, so this DID end up generating a whole ton of green slime.

Busy Buddy,,,, WOW.
The first time I put it in “Dan The Man’s” mouth I had a happy horse.
I swear he sucks on it❣️ , and was a perfect gentleman for my ferrier. Usually he starts getting bored with the whole idea of standing still after the shoes are pulled. So when he started to get fidgety I put the Busy Buddy in his mouth and voilà , he seemed to really like it.
He is a rope Hoover chewing Demond , but not any more ❣️ Needless to say we Both Love It

The halter version provides a great distraction for a mouthy gelding. He was quieter for the farrier with the Busy Buddy and didn’t try to chew on the lead rope or the farrier. It reminds me someone chewing nicotine gum :-).

I have a mentally very young 7yo QH who is very mouthy. Normally he grabs my shirt, my hair, my hate, has chewed thru many cross ties and at least 10 lead ropes. Also he doesn’t ever stand quietly in the cross ties. He is constantly throwing his head and moving around. The first time I put tue Busy Buddy on his halter and out him in the cross ties I thought I had a different horse. He stood like a statue, no fidgeting or throwing his head. Just stood there. While it doesn’t stop him from doing everything with his mouth, it has certainly made a huge difference. Haven’t really got to use the bit one yet but that is next. I call this a Pacifier for horses. Love it!! Thank u for inventing this thing!!

A few of my horses can get a little rowdy for the farrier and this has really helped them stay relaxed and settled during the shoeing process. Highly recommend.

Works like a charm for my meatball horse!!Love it and so does he, solves a lot of aggregation with his silliness!

This is an amazing idea! It works like a charm for my horse who is always very busy with his mount when getting his feet done. Thank you
