Who Buys ThinLine and Why
Download the ‘Who Buys ThinLine?’ brochure here.
There are four primary reasons people purchase ThinLine Saddle Pads. Unlike any other product on the market ThinLine actually enhances performance for both horse and rider. It does this so well it is often used as a therapeutic product for both. ThinLine can create perfect no slip saddle fit and allows heat and water to disperse leaving horses comfortable and happy. The only difficult part of selling ThinLine is that the product looks and feels so simple riders do not believe how much it can do until they actually use one. This is not a product of gimmicks; ThinLine has stood the test of time (over 20 years) and provides the same benefits for every horse and rider combination regardless of age, breed or discipline.
While we knew this for years ThinLine finally did some independent testing on rider movement with a plain cotton pad vs. a Cotton pad with Ultra ThinLine. The scientific results were amazing even to us. ThinLine clearly demonstrates it is the only product producing such a large effect on rider performance.
2. Performance Enhancement for Horses: ThinLine distributes so much impact and distributes so much weight and heat horses are more comfortable in their work. Add to this our anti-slip feature and you will see horses growing in confidence and balance. ThinLine horses use their backs more, traveling deeper and rounder than horses without a shock absorbing pad.
3. Therapeutic Benefits for Both Horses and Riders: when we discuss other pads with potential customers we ask if the pad they use produces a noticeable difference in their backs. The rider answer is always no. If a saddle pad is truly working for a horse the rider should feel it in their back too as the spinal column of the rider is connected to that of the horse. ThinLine is the only product on the market endorsed by Spinal Surgeons and is carried on veterinary, equine chiropractic and equine massage therapists’ trucks throughout the USA. 4. Saddle Fit Technology: again, it is the ThinLine unique technology that makes a difference. For off the rack saddles ThinLine has enough tensile strength to fill in minor areas where the saddle is not quite touching. More importantly, surrounding every hollow point there is a pressure point. ThinLine never bottoms out (like compression based foams) nor does it move away from pressure (like gel) or add so much thickness (most of the saddle pads out there) resulting in saddles that fit too tight and cause great discomfort to horses. All pads except our basic pads have a pocket for shimming. ThinLine shims are available in two thicknesses for three areas of saddle fit: wither, bridging and cantle lift. ThinLine will NOT affect custom saddle fit. It is the only product vended by over 90% of the Master Saddlers residing in the USA.WHO BUYS THINLINE?
The better question might be who does not as it would be a much shorter list!
Professionals: they can be a bit tricky to sell to as you surely cannot tell them if they add the saddle pad their seats will be better and their horses will go better (even though this is true and is consistently reported by Olympic level riders). The funny thing about selling to professionals is that they usually purchase after you take the pad away! Use your demo pad with all the professionals around you. Ask them to ride in the pad every day for about a week. If they are good riders on great horses the product generally does not hit them over the head. What they will notice: every day they will say “I had a good ride today” “The horses were all good today”. Ask them to ride the final day (perhaps day six if they are on a six day work week) without the ThinLine. On that day they will discover the horses were less perfect than the days before plus they will say “oh my, I forgot my back was always sore at the end of the day but it has been great all week, well until today!”
Intermediate Riders at the Show Barn: This category is generally your easiest sale. They are all interested in riding better and having their horses perform better. Price? Skip one or two lessons as the Ultra ThinLine will improve both your riding and your horses’ way of going. It will pay for itself in one or two lessons and will last a decade. The beauty of this category: once someone gets a ThinLine in a big barn the other riders will see the improvement in the horse and rider and soon you will have the barn filled with ThinLine saddle pads!
Beginner Riders and Schooling Barns: ThinLine not Ultra ThinLine here. For the school horses it will protect their backs (generally costs less than a chiropractic visit) and the horses will not travel hollow allowing the horses to remain sounder longer and give the student the opportunity to learn to ride correctly. For the riders the ThinLine will accelerate the learning curve, they will be able to sit the gaits much sooner. For the parents: a ThinLine pad should be considered part of their child’s first equipment along with a riding helmet. Studies have shown riders who ride without ThinLine have spinal problems later in life; those who ride with ThinLine have much healthier backs and can ride for decades. The same is true for the schooling horses. Sell protection, health, safety and performance. Let them know even if they change saddles they can keep their basic pad.
Trail Riders: A much easier sell than you may think. Generally trail riders do not ride everyday but take the horses out for extended hours a few times a month. Just giving both the horse and rider the comfort of a ThinLine is worth every penny. No more sore backs no more saddle slip and better saddle fit for off the rack saddles. Remember, they love their horses too!
